Humayun's Tomb
Commissioned by Humayun's first wife, Bega Begum, with construction beginning in 1565 and designed by the Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, it was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (inscribed 1993) and is often seen as a forerunner of the Taj Mahal.
Sunder Nursery
Sunder Nursery is a large restored park beside the tomb, good for a slow walk before or after the monument.
Nizamuddin Dargah
The dargah is the shrine of the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, who died in 1325. The poet Amir Khusrau is buried nearby, and qawwali is sung here. Dress modestly, cover your head, and ask before photographing people.
Purana Qila
The Old Fort, built in the 1530s and 1540s in the time of Humayun and Sher Shah Suri, has its main gate, the Qila-i-Kuhna mosque (1541) and Sher Mandal.
